Emil Richter was a refugee from the East Prussia. After listening to a sermon of a Pastor from India, whose name is P.M Samuel, in Frankfurt Germany, he was deeply moved by the spirit of God about the conditions of the poor children and resolved to help them. He had lost his only son who was serving in the German Army during the Second World War, he dedicate his entire life to the cause of the orphans and destitute. On 15th November 1957, during the birthday party of his wife and the prayer meetings in his house, he was able to kindle the conscience of group of Christians in Germany and Switzerland to help poor. In August 1958 Mission was registered as “ Christlicher Missionsdienst e.V.
Christian mission service, a charitable organization, has been caring for orphan and destitute children for the past 49 years. It has 74 institutions for the care of children, young people and senior citizens, mostly located in rural areas.Presently for 6,000 and approximately 38,000 have passed through the gates of CMS. CHRISTIAN AID assists more than 500 ministries with tens of thousands of indigenous or native missionaries serving in the field. These ministries are currently engaging more than 1,000 unreached people groups in more than 100 countries around the world, especially in places where American missionaries are no longer allowed to go. They operate Bible institutes and missionary training centers where thousands of Christian workers are being trained for missionary service. They also spread the gospel through crusades, radio and TV broadcasting, literature distribution, Bible translation, and by providing care for needy children, the disabled, the elderly, and victims of diseases and disasters.
An Indian pastor visiting Germany in 1957 shared about the needs of children in India. Emil Richter responded with compassion. Believing that the love of Jesus Christ could meet these needs, he thought of a unique plan. He initiated a programme for care of children by donating the money gifts he received on his wife's birthday in November 1957.This was the seed from which Christian Mission Service was born in India .
